Learn how to play the guitar without the hassle…

After all, you picked up the instrument because you were attracted by the possibility of being able to duplicate the sounds you were hearing.

I think it starts that way for most of us. We hear a song or riff or maybe a solo and were like.

I have to learn that… It is a strange thing that almost hypnotically draws us into the world of guitar.

The Crazy Train intro was one of the first riffs I ever learned.

Now let’s get to a basic exercise you should do for at least 5 minutes each day without fail.

You will want to go through each finger position on every string with an up and down picking motion.

You’ll also want to practice this exercise in all playing positions up and down the neck.

Don’t worry about playing scales right away just focus on getting your fingers working and improve the connection between your brain and our hands.

Developing your own tone and sound is really all in the hands, not in the gear you use.

It took me 15 years or more to figure that out.

Don’t fall into the trap of chasing after the latest piece of gear.

I have owned the Eddie Vanhalen 5150 and the 5150 II and it didn’t make me sound that much like Eddie…

Even after 25 years I still feel the pull of the advertising hype though…

The new 50w 5150 III looks kind of interesting.

But my point is that you should be spending your time to actually learn how to play the guitar and not worrying about the gear you are using.

I think most beginners spend more time lusting after the latest shiny object.

Than they do practising on what areas they are weak on.
